Pentecost: God wants everyone to have His Spirit.
The human personality is made up of body, spirit, and soul. Evil spirits and God’s Spirit exist. God wants everyone to have His Spirit as the creator and Father of all.
At creation, God gave Adam His Spirit (Genesis 2:7). He also promised to give His Spirit to all people who will believe (Joel 2:28-29). This promise was fulfilled on the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2:1-6. Since that Day, God’s Spirit is available to everyone who will repent, have faith in Jesus and baptise (Acts 2:38-41).
Our Aim today is to look at why God wants everyone to have His Spirit. Our approach is to look at what it means without the Spirit of God, as this will help us understand what is going on in our world. For example, David prayed to God, do not take your Spirit from me (Psalm 51:10-11); Moses said if your presence does not go with us, we are not going (Exodus 33:15-16).
Society: The Spirit of God is needed to hover over darkness (Genesis 1:1-2). People with God’s Spirit preserve society from destruction (e.g. Gen 18:16-33). Thus, non-believers benefit from God's Spirit although they do not have Him. People who have God’s Spirit are the salt and light of society (Matt 5:14-16). Even evil people and Satan need people with God’s Spirit to do evil against them.
Leadership: Leaders without God's Spirit will lead the people to worship Idols and demons (E.g., Nebuchadnezzar, Daniel 3). God's leaders are anointed by His Holy Spirit ( Ezra 1:1-4; Isaiah 45:1; Acts 10:38.
Individual: If you don’t have the Spirit of God, you do not belong to Christ (Romans 8:9; John 3:3-5). You can enjoy the benefits of the Holy without Having Him in you. This happens if you are around people who have God's Spirit. But God wants everyone to have His Spirit.
Some health conditions: e.g. Luke 13:10-17’ Mark 5:1-5; Matthew 15:22-29).
Disobedience to God and bad behaviour ( 1 Chronicles 21: 1-8; Ephesians 1:1-2)
Forbidden Spiritual practices )witchcraft, sorcery, etc. Deut. 18:9-13).
How do people get evil spirits?
Bloodline and how to stop it; when you decide to do anything evil, evil
spirits will come and help you, e.g. Judas (Luke 22:1-5); 3. When you disobey God ( 1 Sam 16; 1 Kings 22).
How can you receive the Spirit of God?
Faith in Jesus, repentance, baptism,.. Live as God’s child (acts 2:36-41).
God’s children can receive daily infilling of the Holy Spirit through prayers ( Acts 4:31).
